The Fossil

The Fossil

A Poem by Ellen Mary

She found you a rock
And coloured it with kisses

You gave her the shoulder
Two hits and three misses

She painted you a picture
Of the apple of her eye

you turned your back to her
One excuse and two lies

She gave you the sun
and the stars in her heart

you gave her the shadows
of your sorrow, of the dark

she offered a promise
you rejected it wholly

now left in the dumpster
laying rotten and mouldy

off to the landfill
to become nothing
