Love & H2O

Love & H2O

A Poem by Ellen Hammond

Love resembles H2O,

As its patient ebb and flow,

Smooths a jagged heart of stone.

Inner beauty thus is shown.

Inner beauty, in its turn

Incites passion's sultry burn

Love and lust commingled, rise

Vapor forms before our eyes

Vapor raptured, unaware

The onset of Arctic air

Erose edges once more form

From thick ice of wintry storm

Ice-packed heart is numbed to pain

'Til warm waters stream again

When embraced by H2O

Beware of the undertow

This was wonderful and witty, I love it! It has a hint of humor mixed in with the seriousness of the subject. I always have great admiration for that. It reminds of life because some great wit once said God is the greatest comedian of all playing to an audience who are afraid to laugh. I do hope that poor heart thaws out again! Who knows? Maybe it will be warm enough to break the ice! lol

' Ice-packed heart is numbed to pain ~ 'Til warm waters stream again ~ When embraced by H2O ~ Beware of an undertow ' .. I part smiled, part nodded at those lines, they're so true but then, your entire poem is. There's something about love: it certainly can flow, trickle, cascade or at worse, drown .. you've captured the entire comparison of love to water with great skill, great meter and added some funny nudges .. all in all that makes for a great read.

Thank you for sharing, Ellen. xx

That is quite a comparison between love and water... I certainly never thought of that before... a very creative and intellectual insight my friend.

This was amazingly creative and very well penned. I thoroughly enjoyed the rhythm, rhyme and flow.. the image just put the icing right on the cake for me. The comparision of love and H2O.. is so very true in so many senses.. and yes warmer waters streaming certainly make for a smoother and happier love! So many rush into love.. out of desperation.. belief of an internal need which is usually something missing inside.. we must love ourselves and take care of ourselves first before we can truly find that high state of LOVE.. the consumate relationship that we all truly want is hard work.. and a long road! Thank you for sharing.. your poetry is always sooo inspiring and full of fire!

How beautiful and full of wise sentiments! Your poetic effort is impeccable, and your observations spot on!
We become wiser as we love and learn, and when we are ready to love again, we are much better able to give and feel so much more!
Wonderful verses!!
