This world seems cold, full of evil and hate;
Causing us to tremble.....ponder our fate.
Many look around for someone to blame,
Listen to the news, searching for a name.
Here's a novel thought, you'll not like to hear.
Turn off that TV!.....Now look in the mirror.
"Who me? Well I never!" you start to say.
"How could I lead the whole world astray?"
These questions, for all of us, not just you.
Look closer at the things you fail to do.
Do you let love flow out to all you meet?
Are you rich, knowing some have bugs to eat?
Do you always use your God-given brain?
Think for yourself...even on the 'soul train'?
Do you speak out, when injustice you see?
Or hunch your shoulders, "It's not up to me!"
Do you stand and leave, or stay in the pew,
When you see it's fear and hatred they spew?
Do you simply accept what others say?
Blame all our ills on those who are gay?
Down through the ages with religious zeal,
Others, judged 'n condemned, with no appeal.
Who'll become the next victims of this age?
Ridiculed...scorned...downtrodden by rage.
Minorities, oft the scapegoats of choice,
Ignorance and fear grant evil a voice.
That voice, from a pulpit, stirs up a crowd,
Making them think such judging is allowed.
History attests to these shameful truths,
In witch-hunts 'n wars, we slaughter our youths.
When you point a finger.....try it.....it's true,
There's always three pointing right back at you.
Don't sit there quiet, get down on your knees,
Your silence implies....with them you agree.
Casting stones, as tossed boomerangs, my friend,
Will find their way back to you, in the end.
Well...lots of issues here Ellen and brilliantly put over might I add. If everyone who reads this poem...took heed....well what a fabby world it would be. Some of us try our best...failing here and succeeding there and taking out of it the lesson learned. Others...just don,t give. "You can only do...what you can only do." Commenting on others failures does,nt help but if only they would listen. It,s so frustrating but we all learn from their mistakes. I believe that noone can point a finger at anyone....firstly....it,s so rude to do so....but mainly....there sure will be someone out there waiting to point it straight back.
Great piece and Thanks for your sharing.

Wonderful write my friend! And, we don't have to look too far to find exactly what you speak of in your truth filled poem! There are far too many who are quick to point the blame, judge, decide which path others should take, while they fail to see the plank in their own eye!
Thank you being bold enough to speak of TRUTH....with pointed conviction. If this isn't a wake-up call for some, then they are just already dead with hearts that refuse to be jump started! The paddles that would be able to infuse new life just won't work anymore.
Your write is indeed brilliant, and the images you have chosen just put the exclamation point on "don't judge me without judging yourself!"
With your typical clarity, Ellen, you have cut to the quick of the human condition, brought about so masterfully by Earth's Prince: fear, suspicion, hopelessness, sloth, isolation, arrogance--we are so ready to condemn others, so reticent to understand their plights, and so reluctant to offer aid in any form. Even this very tool we are now using can be a vehicle to nowhere, to isolation, to distancing one human from another. Let's not lose sight of the fact that "Webs" and "Nets" are devices BUILT by Hunters, to ENSNARE the Unwary, that they might be CONSUMED!
Your words hold a bold and often ignored truth that needs to be shared. We are the changes of the earth and only we can change it for the better. Your pictures also add to the poem. Well written. :)
You have raised many wonderful questions.. another good one is do we live in fear or faith... in the end we the question is can you look in the mirror with pride of who you are and what you have done. Evil exists in the world so we can earn our way to heaven which is also why we were given free will. In the end only God can judge you. A wonderful write that gets me thinking.
There you go with your pictures again! The last one added some humor...
I really like this line -
"When you point a finger.....try it.....it's true,
There's always three pointing right back at you."
It is SO true! This poem puts everything right in front of you that no one wants to see. High five!
Yes this is a deep write and very powerful
I like this and what you have said
like that last picture i think it's cute really.
You have penned a truthful write here.
Oh I liked this writing, its so very true ,just look around..we are almost doomed, and nobody will stop the craziness
we are going down at a very fast rate ,just read the news and see..it has not been like that, never this crazy
Do you let love flow out to all you meet?..Are you rich, knowing some have bugs to eat?
Do you speak out, when injustice you see?..When you see it's fear and hatred they spew?
This is a wonderful write,i just love the the way you told it all..i just hope its never too late
I really think we are standing right on edge..and waiting just when to fall..i really believe that..very scary
lovely write..
