THE HAVEN OF LOVE

THE HAVEN OF LOVE

A Poem by Ellen Hammond

   THE  HAVEN  OF  LOVE

Love is not just a word or a feeling
Nor the "heart throb" and emotions that keep our heads reeling

It's a decision to care regardless of who is beside us
Seeking God's hand and wisdom to guide us

Accepting, forgiving, sharing like a mother
Sacrificing our want for the needs of another

Love's a passionate embrace, or a tender caress
An ear bent to listen, or a hand reached to bless

It's the path we must travel to achieve our reward
Of spending eternity safe with our Lord

For the kingdom of God is with us today
Spurring us on to show others the way

It's been said "God is love," and I believe it is true
For He blesses us all as we let him show through

Our actions and lives; never stopping the flow
So all whom we meet will definitely know

There is a haven of love and acceptance inside
Which can only grow stronger with whatever they confide

Love is shown with a smile, a word, hug, or deed
It's seeing and fulfilling an unspoken need

It's sharing in laughter, joy, pain, and sorrow
Never making one wonder if you'll still care tomorrow

Yes, love is what makes life exciting to live
Not just to receive, but especially to give

Hi Ellen,

Oh the ways that love is expressed. I think your message was that love is manifested in many ways, but the truest kind is selfless love, like the Love of God which was shown at calvary. People just don't get it sometimes.

Wonderful message

Mark

....Just had to read again...and love it even more....Some are scared of the word LOVE...but only because it's a stranger to them...I often wonder if such folk ever find it and in time comprehend it, so as to feel it and act upon it, enriching their lives...before they leave this earth...such a pity if this is not so...(Maybe they have to work at it...I dunno...that's double dutch to me)... I thank God for having so much Love in my heart...in all different forms....for the poor woman trying to put her necklace on unaided as she is widowed, for all children...sweet and innocent...for the wee bird who flew in to my window..oops I think these are sympathy notes..but that comes from Love.
Thanks for bringing it all to my attention once more...
Hope you are feeling better soooooooooooooooooon.

Dear Lady,

So insightful. I don't know if I necessarily agree with all the points in your poem, but here is the essence, the powerful message, the answer to all of love":

"Love is not just a word or a feeling...It's a decision"

My God! What a summary. What an insight. The commitment is all. One soul to another. Nothing else matters. Two souls bound. Fates merged. What is mine is yours. What's yours is mine. My love is your love. My fate is your fate. Your fate is my fate. Your death is my death. We are one. End. Full stop. Bottom line.

Marvelous. Wonderful. Succinct summary.

Wonderful words that we greatly enjoyed.

Best regards,

Rick

' Love is shown with a smile, a word, hug, or deed ~~ It's seeing and fulfilling an unspoken need ~~ It's sharing in laughter, joy, pain, and sorrow ~~ Never making one wonder if you'll still care tomorrow ' .. .. and how many times have you shared that with me, dear friend.

You have the incredible knack of knowing when the right time is for anything and everything, maybe it is the believer in you, maybe it's just because you're a very real human being. Whichever or because of both, thank you for beckoning me to this 'old-ish' post today of all todays. xx

A truly wondrous write Ellen, you have framed the true nature of love in such incredible words. Though the entire piece was exquisite, I particularly loved,
"It's sharing in laughter, joy, pain, and sorrow
Never making one wonder if you'll still care tomorrow"
I don't know why, but I did. Fantastic!!
