Medicated CureA Poem by Ellie Howardmedication causes more of the mental illness...Lithium calms the warmth in my blood, Making me manically depressively dull, Radically freezing, blinding, and burning, It’s blackening my senses, and drowning the fury, My mind is blank, my vision is blurring, The men in white suits come to take me, Binding me in leather chairs and electrical wiring. A medicated cure, So “uncommon”, “Very safe” they assure, It sounds so alluring. Paralyzing my body, I’m emotionless; unresponsive. My ego becomes more and more depressive. Dosage per dosage, The lithium whitens my skin and bleaches my lips Consuming me whole, my blood sits cold, Reality trips… Insomnia within, awakens, and presses my skull, It feeds through my eyelids, translucent and pure. © 2012 Ellie HowardFeatured Review
