A Mother's Savior

A Mother's Savior

A Poem by Elizabeth Porterfield
"

This is about a woman who lost everything by an abusive man and had to become a prostitute, and wished for someone to save her. Her savior was her son.

"

Torn and tattered rags

Tied around your hair

A tired and tarneshed locket

Around your battered and bruised neck

a patchwork quilt gowm

Hanging on your scrawny frame

The twisted man had said

That you were the one to blame

Your soft, weak heart

Brought the moth to your flame

Then the moth turned to water

Smothering you

Stealing your life away

Now you lay broken

On a mattress in an alley

Selling your pride

Giving out your dignity

To spend another day

In this hell we call Earth

Wishing for a savior

He comes, then the afterbirth

That little boy

Whose very face

Envoked memories curse

Made your whole life

Worth living

Elizabeth Porterfield
I've never been in a situation like this before, so I can only hope that I described it accurately.
