Never Look Back
A Poem by Elizabeth Porterfield
A random moment when I was thinking about Greek Mythology.
A step forward
Then Another
Then Another.
A look behind himself
That single glance,
That single moment of doubt
Then suddenly
Everything he had worked for
Was gone
In
The Blink
Of An Eye
Silly Grecian!
Don't you know you should
Never Look Back!

This wouldn't be a nod to the story of Orpheus and Eurydice, would it? :) A lovely story from way back when, and I don't see too many poets giving tribute to that story. Perhaps it's tragic enough that writers stray from it?
The odd capitalization tastes a little of Emily Dickinson, which is interesting, but I'm not all that certain what purpose such capitalization serves - I rely too much on consistency to lead my analysis, so I'll go on to different points of the poem.
The format itself is interesting - now this tastes a little of e.e. cummings, that daring poet whose poems are of such mind boggling structure that readers have to reexamine them time and time again to receive the full import of the message in them. Thankfully, this poem's structure isn't so hard to follow, though I'm not aesthetically inclined, so I can't comment too extensively on the structure, really, just that it is an interesting digression from the norm, and that it reminds me of the long way Orpheus went, further and further up, on and on, before looking back.
There is a misspelling of "single," by the way, in line six, and "Greecian" is actually spelled "Grecian." Minor errors, both of them, and easily corrected.
Charming piece - keep writing! :)
