Memory's Burden

Memory's Burden

A Poem by Elizabeth Porterfield
"

A poem Inspired by "My Papa's Waltz" by Theodore something or other

"

As a child

I recall

My childish theories

That cartoons inhabited our world

One year

And then we would the next

That stdrs culd grant wishes

If only I wished hard enough

every night

that I could be loved

By a mother

Plagued by addictions

That she would stay

And be my mother

No matter what happened

She left me

As a child

I remember that too

I remember the feelings

the "What did I do's"

Memory's Burden

I bear it each day

I'm glad that the memories

I'll be glad when the memories

Will all slip away

Have all slipped away
