Stand

Stand

A Poem by Elizabeth Porterfield
"

It's the ones we consider the weakest who are often the strongest. Why? They have the strength to stand against the world.

"

I'm so tired of this endless supplication

Since when did we become a pleading nation?

I will no longer bow

To the rules of their nature!

I won't let them devour me!

They can try to put me down

But again I will rise.

It's the one's on their knees

That reach the skies.

I pray for strength

Like the ones before me

Who stood against the enemy.

The ones who wouldn't let anyone

Crush who they were.

I will stand against the oppressive.

I will fight those

who decide they know whats best for me.

They don't know me at all.

I am who I am

And no one will change that.

I will get down on my knees

And pray to the skies,

To the God up above

Who made me.

I will stand my ground

and no one will make me

someone I'm not.
