To The Unknown Soul

To The Unknown Soul

A Poem by Elizabeth Porterfield
"

This poem is about a guy that I just met. He's mysterious and intrigueing. It also explores the question of how deep his soul might go.

"

Black

The feathery hair that falls in his face

Blue

The spring in his mysterious eyes

Pale Cream

The canvas of his skin

Grey-Black

The hooded jacket that binds his shadow

Intrigue incarnate

Walking among the eyes of mere mortals.

Who is he?

I know him only in name

and appearance.

But who is the man behind the mask

that is ones face?

For surely the mask cannot be the man,

though we know him by it.

Surely the man is deeper

Than mere outer beauty.

For if the man is of no greater substance

Than that on which the eye thrives

He is no more a man

Than an illusion of a man.

What lies beneath the surface

of the Unknown Soul?
