The AnimalA Poem by Elizabeth PorterfieldSomething I've wished I could do a million times...
Tumbling into something she doesn't understand
A dark flame burning behind her closed eyes Burning away the tears she can't let fall Why does life have to be so complicated So confusing So hard to understand The beast lurking deep inside of her Screams to be free To maim To kill To bleed the life away from something Her anger making it so hard to control She doesn't know how to stop this Doesn't know if she really wants to stop it But if she doesn't control her fears she will know true regret If she can't master the disaster unfurling The very thought takes her breath away What is happening to her She can't feel her humanity anymore Her mind is no longer a safe place for her Her escape is gone She screams And something inside of her breaks free of its chains Takes hold of her so completely She's lost herself Lost the person she thought she was And this time she can't get it back She's had enough She becomes the animal And no one can hurt her Nothing can touch her here In this place beyond human understanding And she let's herself go She finally just lets herself Be
