Tear Me to PiecesA Poem by Elizabeth PorterfieldTear Me to Pieces
Tear stains on paper thin skin Blood pours like ink from within She’d cried a million times For a part of her That no longer exists She breathes in pain and sorrow Keeps waiting for tomorrow For promises Left unfulfilled But tomorrow never comes
So she hides from the sun Till it sets at night Then howls to the moon her plight
Refrain Why not just tear me to pieces And burn all the parts To the wind scatter my ashes It’s better than breaking my heart I can’t take this forever I can’t hide from the pain Why not just tear me to pieces As all my sins fall like rain
So tired of holding on here To the one she once held dear He’s dead and gone and moved on Since long ago yesterdays She sings like a lark All alone in the dark Waiting for something more Than what never existed
So she hides from the sun Till it sets at night The howls to the moon her plight
Refrain Why not just tear me to pieces And burn all the parts To the wind scatter my ashes It's better than breaking my heart I can't take this forever I can't hide from the pain Why not just tear me to pieces As all my sins fall like rain
Goodbye to all she used to know Her time is up she’s letting go She just couldn’t hold on anymore So she cried
Refrain Why not just tear me to pieces And burn all the parts To the wind scatter my ashes It’s better than breaking my heart I can’t take this forever I can’t hide from the pain Why not just tear me to pieces As all my sins fall like rain © 2013 Elizabeth PorterfieldAuthor's Note
