War of AttritionA Poem by Elizabeth PorterfieldAnother look at my struggles, the struggles of a human heart...War of Attrition We’re studying war in History Our country is preparing for war But my heart is waging a battle I’ve been fighting since long before Now it’s echoing out all around me And I can’t seem to settle the score In this endless War of Attrition What am I fighting for? Am I fighting for Love? Am I fighting for Hate? As our country is coming to war? As the world begins to echo my soul’s battlefield I know that I can’t take much more. But both fronts stand tall, hold their ground Destroying my strength at its core In this endless War of Attrition What am I fighting for?
