The Pain of a Bleeding Heart

The Pain of a Bleeding Heart

A Poem by Elizabeth Porterfield

I guess I've always been

A bleeding heart kinda girl

If somebody

Anybody

Needed to let their pain go

I took it for them

Holding the wieght of my world

And the shattered fragments

The cutting shards

Of so many others

I feel I know now

What Atlas must have felt

Forced to carry the wieght of the sky

Forever

For his transgressions agains Olympus

So to lessen my burden

To ease the strange pain of pleasing so many

I anger others

My rage exploding out of my

As lava from a volcano

It doesn't help in the end

For then guilt settles on my back as well

But sometimes

I just don't know what else to do

My heart aches for the world

For our longing for peace

Seems to be truly unquenchable here
