![]() BlindA Poem by Elizabeth Porterfield![]() Just another thing that came to me...![]() Blind There’s a school teacher preachin the Golden Rule While the cruel world’s smiling like she’s a fool And we sit there laughing, like “Oh you’re cool” Because the dark’s so strong and we’re all it’s tools I saw a little girl praying in church today She said “Mommy says daddy has gone away And he’s never coming home, he’ll never stay” How’s it fair her daddy sinned yet she has to pay And there’s a young man drinking out on the streets About to come home to the wife he beats But first he’s gotta go see the girl he cheats Cause he’s just kickin at their hearts with shredding cleats There’s good people in the world but they’re not there If it ain’t happenin to them, then they don’t care These broken hearted broken people cry out in despair But their cries fall on deaf ears and empty air And there’s a memory of light in the back of their minds All alone at night wishing they could hit rewind It’s the ones stumbling and searching that finally find That the light’s still there but the worlds gone blind © 2013 Elizabeth PorterfieldAuthor's Note
