Gone Forevermore

Gone Forevermore

A Poem by Elizabeth Rawls
"

Sad poem of loss

"
It fell
The rose from her hand,
Down into the depths
The cold pit where her loved one lay
As if asleep, damp soil for a bed
Petals raining the only touches of color
To fall into the opened earth one last time,
A final touch of light kissing goodbye paled skin.
The dirt is moved
Closing around, closing the veil between worlds
Until there is nothing left but grass
And a tombstone
Cold to the touch
Cold to the heart.
A gaping void in the soul
Her loved one gone, forevermore...
