Gone ForevermoreA Poem by Elizabeth RawlsSad poem of lossIt fell The rose from her hand, Down into the depths The cold pit where her loved one lay As if asleep, damp soil for a bed Petals raining the only touches of color To fall into the opened earth one last time, A final touch of light kissing goodbye paled skin. The dirt is moved Closing around, closing the veil between worlds Until there is nothing left but grass And a tombstone Cold to the touch Cold to the heart. A gaping void in the soul Her loved one gone, forevermore...
