Lost WorldA Poem by Elizabeth RawlsDescribing the warm days and wonderful memories I had during my time in Europe“Lost World”
As the bird
flies a reminder of home A place long
hidden in the back of my mind, Where the sun
is warm, streets alive, swallows soar, The accordion plays, all free from time’s
bind.
Where gondolas
sway and gelato is served: Creamy
spaghetti ice cream topped in strawberry sauce, Paired with
espresso and crispy cream-filled croissants… Such memories
of smells and tastes my head toss!
Views of rivers
from magnificent arching-stone bridges, Forlorn
grapevine fields stretching before imperial mountains, Broken castle
ruins tucked away in jagged ridges, Mystical green
lakes, and glorious spouting mermaid fountains…
A sight, a
smell, instantly bringing me back there Like a portal
to times long forgotten then since; As crisp and
clear to my heart as sunshine’s blare, Mellow and
distant as a foggy dream rinsed.
Now I pause in
thought, for that world is no more, No matter what
I do, for me, it is gone. A world locked
away in my deep closet door, Fading yet
remaining as life’s trials go on.
I guess worlds
don’t last forever, as stories do say Real or fantasy
they wither away fast on the vine. Swallowed by
the deep ocean; gone, taken away… My life, my
dream, the secret world I called mine.
I hold tight to
God as I miss all which is lost, Gazing out the
blurry window to the far dusky sky As the bird
flies by me with a reminder of home… I will keep
hope, and refuse to say a solid “goodbye”. © 2014 Elizabeth Rawls |
