Mind's JourneyA Poem by Elise PehrsonA poem about the journey the mind takes when reading a book.Beneath lines, In secret, Through mass pages unhidden, Lies truths untold to all But one. In a book, The story is told To you Only. Your tale is what Your mind finds When read. Who thinks of reading As a chore For the mind? A straining process through eyes Untold, Untelling? The same who reads and lets go Of light, sugared stories Not meant for digesting. The stories in a book Are meant for consuming. A book should be read" Really read" Slowly, carefully, Freely. A book is a lozenge, Meant to be sucked and savored Until all of its flavor has been soaked in Deeply, Forever within its host. A book should be chewed up Like a fresh piece of long-lasting gum. Not spat out like a seed From the loneliest sunflower. A book is whatever it is And wherever it takes you. The story is the same But different to each Beholder. It speaks to consciousness, Unfolding when pages are turned. Where will you be? Where will it take you? Questions lining the path Of the mind’s journey: A book. © 2013 Elise PehrsonReviews
