The sun is a star wrapped in gold bullion, So you paint a smile on your face So vivid, Da Vinci would roll in his grave with envy. And- Even though your milk Is cooler than a polar bear, Or an ice storm, Or a polar bear chilling in an ice storm- Your Frosted Flakes wouldn’t dare turn soggy. Today is synonymous with perfection And it isn’t because you recently discovered You’re a morning person, No, It’s because your in love. You want to hold on to this feeling Like the last seconds before a bomb explodes. Your love is a bulletproof vest protecting your feeble existence From realities machine gun rounds. All the shrapnel in the world couldn’t burst your bubble. Until, You ask that one fateful question. “ Do you love me?” “I don’t know. You’re cute, but the streets got my soul.” Suddenly, The weather isn’t so warm anymore, And those Frosted Flakes are nothing but dissolved sugar Floating in spoiled milk. Not so much of a morning person now, Are you?
Today is synonymous with perfection
And it isn’t because you recently discovered
You’re a morning person,
No,
It’s because your in love.
You want to hold on to this feeling
Like the last seconds before a bomb explodes.
i like the humour and the mundane in this - momentum of declaration, reality and unbottled emotion - my kind of poetry :D I LOVE the above lines, which is why I have to favourite this.
you do cool with flourish. i want to quote you the lines i loved especially... but that'd be pretty much the whole damn poem. your war/love imagery is tight and smooth and the mingling of frosted flakes with shrapnel and disappointed hope is fabulous. great stuff.
Never have a life or love conversation in the morning. Most woman are unhappy till coffee and they can clear their head. I like the description and the story in this poem.
"Your love is a bulletproof vest protecting your feeble existence
From realities machine gun rounds.
All the shrapnel in the world couldn’t burst your bubble."
A very nice ending to a outstanding poem.
