Supernova

Supernova

A Poem by Elijah Gleaves

Some may say,
"If you stand for nothing
You fall for anything?"
But you fail to comprehend
That rule doesn't always apply.
I am no longer the moon controlling
The tides of my standards,
Now it"s the gravitational pull
Of a mirrors reflection that
Determines who I "fall for".
Maybe if I were caramel
Instead of a dark chocolate,
I'd have the confidence
To reach for the brightest star.
But those shinning orbs
Only shine upon,
The straightest of teeth and
Handsomest of faces.
Not even the nights diamonds
Are brilliant enough to
Illuminate what lies inside,
They can only expose the exterior,
But are blind to what truly matters.
So here I patiently wait
Still orbiting the warm sun,
Still searching for my Supernova
Whose light will pierce this outer shell
And finally reveal the person that lies within.
