Impressions

Impressions

A Poem by Elijah Gleaves
"

First impressions are hard to live down

"

What am I to you?

Am I a distant figure,

As meaningless as the weather in L.A.

When you reside on the eastcoast?

Or am I a nuisance?

The rain turning your sunshine into gray;

Your rainbows into blurred water colors?

Maybe I'm the vodka and orange juice in your cup?

Your liquid confidence dressed in blue jeans

And old tennis shoes.

Am I simply

The mirrored image reflected

By the glass of your almond eyes?

Constantly judged by the standards

Set inside the recesses of your conscience.

The Gleaves derived from your imagination-

Ignorant to my reality.

Who am I to you?

I am the embodiment of a first impression.

Unchanging and irrevocable.

The flow and content is great. I really liked how this touches on the issue of never judge a book by its cover. Nicely done.

I'm from the hood man, my first impression are your body movements, before you say anything...just how I was made to see things, sort of like a chess game, ponder before the first move, cool write Elijah, Unique...

First impressions can leave a mark forever.....however much we get to know someone! This is beautifully crafted, as all your work is!
It is what those first impressions are here that leave the reader in awe!
Divine wording!
