Finding compassion, peace and happiness

Finding compassion, peace and happiness

A Poem by Ell

My studies in Management thought me an approach in life,

It made so much sense to me, so I adopted it by heart.

There is no best or worst, there is no true or false.

There are only facts and figures, research and findings,

Data and analysis, suggestions and statistics.

But even they get distorted by calculated minds,

And manipulated by some powerful ones.

What looks like a fact might as well be a fact indeed.

Or it can be a distorted version of it.

I wish there was an ISO standard to identify which one is which.

A version control could have been helpful, to tell apart fake from real.

If the facts are so difficult to find in life,

Then what's there to help us make choices and decide?

There are observations and opinions of our own,

And there are also of the others around.

Even, they are biased, and distorted, including the ones of ours.

So whatever you are doing, however you are thinking,

It is best to consider all options, ideas, information and findings,

Which are available to us at that point in time,

And better to do it all without any judgemental biased thoughts in mind.

Life is a beautiful painting, a big complex jigsaw puzzle.

Study every single piece, and you will see each one counts, and each one matters.

Aren't we like pieces of this giant jigsaw puzzle?

So, does it really matter who we are, and what our shapes and colours?

Aren't we all part of this big magnificent beauty?

Isn't it worth coming together, and embracing differences and diversity?

You see, we are not perfect, none of us, and nothing in life.

So how can we claim that others are wrong, and we are right?

And that we are perfect and others are not?

Their opinions, their decisions, their choices don't, but ours count?

Their lives are less important than ours?

Do we deserve a better life than the others?

Our futures should be bright, and not others'?

What's wrong with differences anyway?  Seriously!

Why cannot we just accept things as they are, and get on with it?

Why do we always try to change others, and make them like us?

So they walk like us, they talk like us, eat like us, and wear like us.

To make sure they behave like us, react like us, even have fun like us.

Who says what is right, and what is wrong, who makes the law and sets the norms?

So their sexual orientation should be like us too?

Of course, they should think like us, vote like us, have the same political views too?

They should be from same religion,

But that's also not enough, they should be from the same denomination too?

They should be like us, so they don't challenge and question us.

Shouldn't disagree, shouldn't oppose, shouldn't go against us.

But just because they are different, does that mean they are threat to us?

Seriously, is this what we think? If so, it is such a shame on us!

But I really believe, that as long as there is life, and humankind exists,

There is hope, and we have the power within ourselves to find compassion, peace and happiness.
