This is a spin-off version of the famous book. It is in the perspective of the littlest goat. I hope you enjoy.
Three Billy Goats Gruff- Goat’s perspective
One day both of my big brothers and I walked across the big cobblestone bridge. I’m the younger of the Billy Goat brothers. My names Blackie. Even though I have white spots all over my black fur coat. I look at my brothers crossing the bridge like it’s nothing but a piece of cake. I look over the edge of the bridge and see rushing water flowing very fast. I sigh and slowly pick my way across the cobblestone bridge. My brothers watch me carefully and encourage me to keep going and to just take it slowly. Cause taking it slow and steady is better than rushing to it and making mistakes. Isn’t it funny that life has a way of making small little obstacles for people or animals that the higher powers know that you can handle it and come out stronger? Just after I finish my thought the troll from under the bridge climbs the side of the bridge and sits in the middle of it. “Um, excuse me, sir. Can I please get past you so I may join my brothers for lunch?” I ask and look up at the troll in his cold green-eyed stare. “What will I get out of it, if I let you join your brothers on the other side of my bridge?” The troll grumbles and looks me up and down like I was food. I mean I guess I was but still. I was just a little billy goat trying to get lunch with his older brothers. How hard could it be?
I love it when writers do a spoof on some other type of art, such as a song or a well-known story, etc. Your spoof is unexpected, tho. Usually a spoof is funny or it's making fun of the original piece. But here, you've taken this story in a more deep & thoughtful & serious way! Very unexpected! It's quite original & fresh to get inside the head of the baby goat as you did. You are a strong storyteller & yet I feel the ending of this is just a wee bit sudden. It almost feels as tho that last line or two could be offered as dialogue coming from the goat, rather than expository by the author (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
