Lost At Sea

Lost At Sea

A Poem by Elijah Washington

Trapped in a complex sea of confusion,
I bundle up, holding myself in fear.
Rapid waves crash below me,
wind strikes me from all directions.
Lost in a path of unhappiness,
I sit and wait, hoping, begging, praying for it all to be over.

The darkness of the gray storm covers the skies,
It drenches me in droplets of turmoil and depression.
I cry out for help, for everything to be okay again,
but nobody can here me.
I am all alone, deserted.
With nothing to do, with no one to turn to.

I close my eyes in an attempt to envision something else, anything else.
A picture of a better life for me flashes before my eyes.
One without so many treacherous storms to withhold,
so dangerous and harsh to have to survive, I wish it could be that way.
I open my eyes blocked off from my thoughts as the pace of the rain falling against my body begins to slow, the sun fighting through the darkness.
I surpassed the storm to now relax in peace, until that cycle of my life returns.
