I'll Go Forward

I'll Go Forward

A Poem by Elijah Washington

A million things,

running through my mind.
Things I want to keep,
and things I want to leave behind.

These things flow through,
in and out.
No matter how much I try,
they
're out there and about.

Can't change the past,
but I wish i could forget it all.

All the mistakes I made,
Oh, the mistakes I made.

I can't go back,
can't change the past.
But what i can do,
is change the present, make it last.

Because we learn,
from our mistakes.
Throughout every step,
a person takes.

A million things,
running through my mind.
Things I want to keep,
and things I want to leave behind.
But I'll go forward.

Beautiful. I can really identify. I would have preferred if you made the repetition of "A million things...and things I want to leave behind" a separate stanza. I think it would have deepened the effect. In any case, this is really good. :)

You sound somewhat frantic as you write this. It would seem that if you were reading this outloud it would be read very very fast especially in the middle.. At least that's what my brain sees..
I like this piece, simple, yet meaningful...
