His Last Words

His Last Words

A Poem by Elijah Washington
"

From a dream.

"

He shivers rapidly on top of the massive building,

clinging to his raggedy old hoodie for dear life.

The light flashes before his eyes,

He looks down.

Cars speed throughout the streets moving along in the darkness.

He looks up.

Shining stars cover the dark skies.

He remembers those. He remembers how much they used to mean to him.

Each one seems to bring back a story of his life.

As he remembers these stories the one he never wants to recall again comes into mind.

Snap. Just like that he is thrown back into his own reality.

He remembers why he is where he is right now.

He turns around and walks to the other side of the rooftop.

Down below him are silent waters, singing in agony.

He crosses his arms and says his last words as he jumps off and into the ocean for no return.

"Without you I am nothing."
