The DistractionA Poem by Elisabeth AcostaHow easily we (I) get distracted by that which calls us (me) away from our (my) purpose in Life.Morality sat next to me and spoke softly. My soul listened and was pleased. We laughed and danced until my heart was filled with such joy that my own bones trembled.
I lived in sweet purity, and innocence covered me. Dignity was my crown, His righteousness was my cloak, and I wore it with humble pride.
One day as I sat in the cool shade of the willow tree listening to Morality sing to me, I heard a distant call. I ignored it, but the call became stronger. Along with the distant call came a sweet intoxicating aroma.
My soul become distracted. Morality whispered softly in my ear, "Turn to Me and let not your soul wonder." But my eyes had taken in pleasure, and my heart began to devise how it might follow.
Not too quickly. No, darkness was cunning. Slowly it moved like shadows on a moonless night, then hiding, in the deep abyss of my soul. So I was given over to compromise. Oh that I would not have glanced the day darkness romanced me.
