THE ALIENS 3A Poem by Eli RoseThird (I know! I am also surprised!) in a series of poems that are all titled/begin with 'THE ALIENS.'THE ALIENS were taller than us, more
beautiful and wittier too. When they appeared they gracefully refused any special treatment declined the awards, the parades Mostly, they went to different cafés saw better movies drove impeccable cars They listened to our stories, always politely,
almost smiling but afterwards they
just sipped from their water glasses with their long slender fingers and gazed ever so slightly out the window. One day the disappeared,
just gone, like dust someone said they all went to the backs of convenience stores and were lifted away some said they all left on foot, walked up right through the hazy atmosphere we didn't miss them. © 2010 Eli Rose |
