She Lingered Still

She Lingered Still

A Poem by Dawn
"

Title prompt for contest. It is about being unable to move on.

"

 blankets entwined by the window
her suppressed nest of regret
rain drips down creating tears
upon the unclear window pane

moonlight's soft glow peers within
unable to bring desire's comfort
physical suffering fades away
with each week's slow passing

her mental anguish lingers
trapped in the reel of memories
repetition reopens wounds
injuries unable to heal

the episode reaches its end
for the fourth time this month
tears dry in a brief moment
she lingers still in the nest
ready to press repeat
