Return

Return

A Poem by Eldridge Dulatas

One hour, and the clock ticks
I stare at you, hoping that time slows down.
You and your stories, orchestra to my ears
I could listen to you talk nonsense all day.
15 minutes gone…
You smiled at me, I was relieved
How did you do that?
Im in awe of your presence.
30 minutes gone…
You hold me, I was stunned.
How can a split second touch be so comforting
I still wonder.
45 minutes gone…
Its almost time
I prepare myself for a momentary sadness to come
We both know its time to part again
But you smiled at me, hinting that you’ll be back,
And it was all I need…
Clock ticks as I wait for your return.
