November

Once I might have wrote of change,
the change of leaves and falling games.
Things, in fact, have utterly switched,
and now I write of what has mixed.

November brought a great conflict,
a man, I loved, was made elect,
and some still swear it was a political trick,
a joke that bled democratic.

I can assure, to all the world-
This act is not of falsified whirls.
Us, liberals, we hold the vote
and by our will we’ll end this moat.

No more will foreign countries swear,
that America will fall from tear.
Generations have come to rise,
the flag will fly without old ‘guise.

Truth has conquered prejudice.
Justice calls to all the twists.
Parties blur, and lines erase-
With November comes the dawning age.

Once I might have wrote of change,
Now I write that America is saved.

Yet another one written solely out of boredom for a contest :) November and what it meant to me.

I think this is a wonderful poem and tribute. The campaign season (with the bitter primary race before the actual presidential race) just seemed to go on and on, and that -- I think -- caused people to lose site of the significance. It was a huge day, and it's given people hope. You capture that very eloquently here! You should post it on Obama's web site!

Piss.....this makes me tear up as I read it today, February 21, 2010 as I felt and agreed with all you wrote as it happened and am now saddened that our political system can bury someone so quickly. I am so irritated with the way that the institution we know as american politics is about beating each other into submission with whatever tactics necessary except the blind truth. Doesn't matter what side you are on, it is a sad and shameful way to handle things. American government has become a UFC fighting cage filled with nerds. Give me the face of humanity and an understanding of the middle way any day. Nice Poem Girly Q full of hope and good feelings. Sorry about the soap box. I admire that patriotism can come from a thought or even a contest. It seems allot of thought and effort went into this one you said was written out of boredom but truly I hear the voice of a poets soul.

I very much like your rhyming scheme and rhythm. I also like how you used forced rhymes in the first stanza, the second half of the fifth stanza, and in the last two lines. Very nice and tricky indeed. :) It is also nice to see the hope placed in this poem.

I agree we have met a mile stone for equality; we have elected the right person! I will wait with hope that he does the job.

I really liked this write and yes the days have finally broke the barriers once held many years ago and I am happy that things have finally changed as far as the countries view as voters and as a consensus and elected as a county a new dawning age.
