The Symmetry of Your BonesA Poem by Elaenor AislingBeing a fan of the Mentalist, Criminal Minds and Bones, Im not surprised the content ran into my poetry...The symmetry of your bones Was beautiful As they lay White and silent Delft at keeping secrets But still divulging to a knowing eye. You were tall 5’10, or so or at least, that’s what you’re femur said and you walked a lot or jogged, according to your calcaneus They said you were a 20 something But you still had a baby tooth And your wisdom teeth were gone, Your mandible was very helpful It gave us your name They found a bit of hair, Though most if it was gone Brunette or black They couldn’t tell on sight That necklace you were wearing, It was an antique, was it not? I’d imagine it was your grandmother’s But there were no relatives Around to ask. We loaded you, Piece by piece Onto the gurney, Taking care not to ruin the lovely symmetry That now lies under glaring lights on an autopsy table © 2012 Elaenor AislingAuthor's Note
