The Letters I'll Never Send

The Letters I'll Never Send

A Poem by Elaenor Aisling

The letters I'll never send, dear
that shall never reach your hand,
but sit hidden within my mind
unwritten, unknown, and unread.

The words I'll never say, dear
that shall never reach your ear
but stay locked behind my lips
unheard, unknown, and unsaid.

The things I'll never do, dear
that shall never be recalled
but stay beneath a cloak of fear
unimagined, unknown, and undone.

The letters I'll never send, dear
the words I'll never say,
the things I'll never do, dear
because with you, I could not stay.

Very interesting we have such a short window to find our other half so wonder many are so sad at the thought of being alone

aw, this was very lyrical and precious, what a nice read. I always wanted to know the daughter of E.E. cummings :P

outstanding.

I usually would write down my comment immediately every after reading, but this piece made me pause, so I could savor what was fed to my senses. Beautifully written that I read it thrice, and no doubt, I still will. I've read poems along this line, but yours was way too different: The tone, the word choice, and not to mention the meter. All these made it perfect. Just beautiful!

This is a truely touching poem...

You capture the affection and regret the speaker feels, simply with the repetition of "dear" and "I'll never". Nicely handled. The last line is really the clincher, cementing the finality and loneliness of death, for both the dead lover and the one she left behind.
