The Letters I'll Never Send

The Letters I'll Never Send

A Poem by Elaenor Aisling

The letters I'll never send, dear
that shall never reach your hand,
but sit hidden within my mind
unwritten, unknown, and unread.

The words I'll never say, dear
that shall never reach your ear
but stay locked behind my lips
unheard, unknown, and unsaid.

The things I'll never do, dear
that shall never be recalled
but stay beneath a cloak of fear
unimagined, unknown, and undone.

The letters I'll never send, dear
the words I'll never say,
the things I'll never do, dear
because with you, I could not stay.

Perfect. I think about this all the time, and you've put it in words so artfully. Send this somewhere. It needs to be read. I love the "dear" parts too. Just like a letter. This is masterfully glorious.

Thank you.

The lines fit like puzzle pieces, I loved the progression and how the final stanza tied everything together. They say the love that goes unspoken is the strongest sort, you captured it here in all of its' secret and elusive beauty.

This is AMAZING. Very rhythmic even without a distinct rhyme scheme! I love it.

This is just so sad! I can't imagine losing someone, after a short passionate romance; let alone, after sharing a lifetime together. The cards have not been dealt that way to me and, perhaps, it is for the best. All the words unspoken, all of the moments never shared, and the ribbon that will never be tied around a pile of love notes. This is just so sad!

However, it is a beautiful and masterfully penned write!!

Very good job! I read it twice after reading your author's note. Initially, I did not think of it as a dead lover, etc. so the concept was intriguing enough to make me read it again under that vein. I liked it more as the "dead lover" concept. It seemed to make it a "deeper" poem. Thanks for sharing!

This poem is so touching, almost haunting - whether from a living lover or dead, the sentiments are honest and the sense of ending complete. I love it.
