Adrift Among The WavesA Poem by El SuplexoA Villanelle I wrote that was inspired by Firefly, Outlaw Star, Walt Whitman's 'Pioneer o Pioneer' and a six pack of Smithwicks beer.
To those adrift among the waves:
Into the great frontier of space you go, Where there's no earth to fill your graves. Pioneers, oh pioneers so bold and brave. Hearts filled with a determination few know; Save for those adrift among the waves. A name among the stars to engrave, Is that your bargin, your quid pro quo When there's no earth to fill your graves? Settler, pirate, outlaw or knave. What title is fitting to bestow For one adrift among the waves? They turn their faces when you rant and rave, Because reason is not what makes your eyes aglow. Even though there's no earth to fill your grave. Most are watching shadows on the wall of a cave, And refuse to follow the stars heavenly flow. To those adrift amongst the cosmic waves, You need no earth to fill your graves. © 2009 El Suplexo |
