Soldier Left For DeadA Poem by Eric KaunAsong i wrote with Jared Joncas
Soldier Left For Dead
Explosions lit up the night sky
As my best friend lay on the ground,
I hold him in both my arms,
Hoping that we would be found.
Bullets fly past both our heads
Everyone else, just left for dead,
Then I know my time has come,
I leave my friend, pick up my gun.
~instrumental~
Explosions hit the ground to my left,
I fell to my knees, fearing death,
What would I do if I died today?
I’d lose it all, so they could be free.
I’d die for two, I’d die for three,
I’d die for you, to keep you free.
That’s all war is, there’s nothing else,
Then what am I doing, for myself?
I’d stand up, I’d fight the fear,
I’m not a hero, My goal isn’t clear.
Trying to fight, do the best I can
Trying to live, and yet I’m just a man.
The guns fire a three shot salute,
The tears on your cheek are absolute,
And on my coffin they lay my flag,
Fifty stars and the red white and blue,
Oh’s
Oh’s
Oh’s
Oh’s
I’d stand up, I’d fight the fear,
I’m not a hero, My goal isn’t clear.
Trying to fight, do the best I can
Trying to live, and yet I’m just a man.
I’d stand up, I’d fight the fear,
I’m not a hero, My goal isn’t clear.
Trying to fight, do the best I can
Trying to live, and yet I’m just a man.
