Burning Pain

Burning Pain

A Poem by Eisha

Burning pain is all my mind registers
Hot searing fire strong enough to melt the purest metal
My heart blisters and boils and suddenly
The tissues and tendons are lined with scars
And each connected artery fills with scorching heat
Carrying the flames from my chest to my fingertips
And then to my soul, my blazing soul
It is alight with the power of one thousand burning matches
Crackling with the burden of one thousand wrongdoings
Embracing my lungs and leaving them empty
The flames leave me gasping in toxic gases
And choking out two decades worth of blackened ashes:
The charred remains of my broken dreams.
