Literal Idioms

Lying down on a bed of roses can kill you,

The petals will suffocate you.

If it’s raining cats and dogs,

Your pets are committing suicide.

If someone has butterflies in their stomach,

They must really like butterflies.

If you’re the apple of someone’s eye,

You’d better pull that apple out.

If someone sees red,

It’s a clear case of sore eyes.

If you have an Achilles heel,

No more running for you.

If you like beating around the bush,

I suggest you use a flamethrower.

If you keep judging a book by its cover,

You’ll get no proof.

If curiosity killed your cat,

Don’t let it happen to the dog.

If a picture paints a thousand words,

You now have an elementary book.

Here's one:

If a little bird told you something
Then I'm sorry, you have schizophrenia.

I found this very interesting and smart. I very much enjoyed this!

'If you keep judging a book by its cover,
You’ll get no proof.'

Copy that! Good call!

I really enjoyed this. Have you ever tried taking quote and statements from movies and books? If not i suggest you go through some Edger Allen Poe, William Shakespeare, Alice in Wonderland or things along those lines. They have lots of hidden idiom's and quotes that would be perfect for this. It would also be a great chance to expand your harmonizes a little bit and experience a different type of writing that very few writers could pull off but I think you would be capable of looking through it and discerning what would work in both a literal and figurative term.

Momo, This piece is so clever, you apparently are wise beyond your years; certainly the youngest person to have sent me a friend request. I don't usually critique writes as much as I review them, but occasionally if I see and error (of presentation, NOT of content) I would like to know if I can mention it to you. It will be in a cordial spirit but if something wrong messes up a great piece, I know that I would want it to be pointed out. (I'm speaking of punctuation, spelling, grammar etc) I am gladly accepting your request. One thing I must tell you is that due to the volume of friends that I have, I often have a hard time keeping up with my reviewing obligations. Send me a read request and it will guarantee that I will review it, OK? take care...dan
