Image of me

Image of me

A Poem by Marcus Medrano

people who look like me

have been called

rapist and steelers

lazy and leeches

and put behind a divider screen

its okay they only know the though of me

last time i checked

we were blood donors

business owners

game changers

Japanese majors

but that image that you painted

on the tv screen

its not an image of me

or my family

and i don't let blind words control me

my grandfathers struggle is burned onto me

and for that i wont forget

I am a legacy

all this hard work

and so many people want to disregard it

but we haven't made any rapist

just college graduates

its okay they only know the thought of me

the thought of us

and i wont let it make our hard work go to bust

their words only amount to the weight of a feather

if you want to silence them

dont

and just smile when you get your college acceptance letter

I'm here because of my grandparents sacrifice

from living in a cardboard house

to a taste of city life

and I'm going to enjoy it regardless of other peoples lies

Bravo!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can relate to every single f*****g word you wrote here!

I love that you capture the pain and insult we have to go through everyday.

We might be from other Race, Sex, Gender, Ethnicity, Culture or Color but at the end of the day we are HUMAN BEINGS and we, like anyone else, DESERVE to be treated EQUALLY!

THANKS FOR SHARING THIS PIECE!
