Soaring Eagles

Soaring Eagles

A Poem by Elli

I see the eagle in the cage,
I see how it longs to be free,
I see how he stares up, skyward.

My first thought is unlike any other;
'I can relate to you, pretty bird.'

My eyes watch as his wings spread,
My eyes watch as he attempts flight,
My eyes watch as the bars contain him.

I can relate to that pretty bird.
I am the caged bird,
But I do not song.
Instead I remain silent,
Wishing,
Waiting,
Hoping,
Someone will open my door,
And set me free.
