Weltschmerz

A Poem by Ego Amo

On world weariness

"
/Weltschmerz: that physical reality can never satisfy the demands of the mind.

Rather, I believe as Lewis taught, the mind cannot satisfy the demands of the transcendent reality, and our 'physical reality' is the mind's failing attempt.

Desire, the presence of the Nameless Desire, is the proof of the invalidity of our /Reality/.

Is this Wishful thinking? The Nameless Desire is not an anomaly, nor is anything Nameless, but we cannot know it's name, because it is not encompassed in the Manufactured Reality of the Psyche. Hunger is so named because it is satisfied with food, thirst with water, loneliness with company, sleepiness with sleep. That Desire which is Nameless, the mind would give all manner of names to alleviate it: Youth, Love, Tastes, Flesh, every Hedonistic thing, every Masochistic (or tough minded) thing.

By Physical matter and Nostalgia (the fermented semblance of the past) would the mind sate the Nameless Desire. It is in the power of the mind to name all desires but that one. By this invariable failing of the mind - which with every other desire is successful - we understand that the reality of the mind is incomplete; that there exists a Thing which Is outside of the mind's universe. Moreover, that some part of us which is not the mind knows this Thing is a significant implication (along the lines of: A part of us has existed outside of the physical reality of the mind, and thus is not completely satisfied with the mind's insistence on the unique concretion of it's universe), to contemplate at another time.

Weltschmerz: the loose threads of the manufactured reality of the mind
