Please...Don't Hit Me

Please...Don't Hit Me

A Poem by Egao-onna

Silent

The calm before the storm

My blood runs cold

I know what’s about to happen

Suddenly, a burst of screaming

Face taut with anger

You approach me

Fear leaks through every pore

Fight or flight kicks in

I want to run

To lock myself away

But my punishment will be worse if I do

I stand there and take it

My nerves are shot

Tears flow down my cheeks like rivers

The pain

I force myself to not think

To stand there until the tirade is over

Once it stops, I am free

When I can go

I dash up to the room

That has been called mine

To hide away

For 48 hours

Until I can go home

Awww this is such a sad poem...I enjoyed the imagery, I could picture an abusive relationship going through my head as I read this...I hope this isn't something that has happened to you before

A good, emotional, strong poem!
