Shh

Shh

A Poem by Tara
"

Don't speak

"
Shh
Don't speak
They might hear you
Your heartbeat is too fast
Slow it down
Or trust me
They'll make it stop.
Shh
Don't speak
You're shaking
Your breathing is hitched
Your hands are clammy
Take a quiet breath.

Shh
Don't speak
You pull your knees up close
Your eyes wide
Your face pale
Every shadow that passes over you
Is a threat.
Shh
 Don't speak
If they find you
It's the end for you
The darkness is suffocating
What can you do about it?

Shh
Don't speak
They know you're here
They can feel it
You can't hide forever
You can't run
They'll catch you
Shh
Don't speak
You can hear rustling
They're getting close
You could make a break for it?
No
Stay still
Shh
Don't speak
You feel a breath on your face
It's rancid
And stale
You can't move
You can't breathe
Shh
Don't speak
They've found you
Shh
Don't speak
There's nothing you can do
Shh
Don't speak

It's all over now

Ouch, they got him. I like the way you built up the story to a frightening end. It reminds me of a nightmare I had once. Everything went quiet when it was over. Good poem.

Quite dark and disturbing, the whole hide or be found theme. You pen this with great imagery and tension. Very nice, keep em' coming
