You Can't Make Somebody Love You

You Can't Make Somebody Love You

A Poem by Edward L. Kearney

You can't make somebody love you,
This much I know.
You can't make somebody love you
If love for you isn't what they bestow.

You can't make somebody love you,
No matter how hard you try.
You can't make somebody love you,
If your stars just aren't aligned.

You can't make somebody love you,
Even if you deliver every time on cue.
You can't make somebody love you,
To them you're nothing more than a fleeting muse.

You can't make somebody love you,
Even if your heart beats for them like a symphony of drums.
You can't make somebody love you,
Despite your hopes that they're the one.

You can't make somebody love you,
Despite how easy the movies make it look.
You can't make somebody love you,
even when pouring your soul like an open book.

...

But maybe you can make somebody love you,
This much is true.
Maybe you can make somebody love you,
By being you and only you.
