Love in a sepulcherA Poem by Ed RectorA poem about the loss of loveOh lady of my luck, fate beheld you now. A once wished for love did blossom. Our budding rose of love did grow Faster with every sight we sewed, With gazes that breached our eyes And every heart beat that we felt, That could make a dead man rise, Brought the flower of our love To grow each day in size. But alas time has had it's cackle And roses aren't meant to last. Now I fear I'm free of shackles That now remain broken in the past. What treachery, our love gone to fast. For you and you alone my love, I'd trade your space beneath the floor For my life lived alone above If it meant the world could see you more. For your beauty did shine From you the lovely muse of mine And oh what a shine it did shine Brighter than the day lights time And that alone made our rose of love, With hardly a help from me, Grow to the loveliness it was. Sadly though our love did slow When death did reach for thee. As for me I am merely left to live As man that has lost his love to give. For death did bring this ill-fated sting That left me widower to a wife and ring. As has death brought this chilling thought Of the reminisce of the frail and pale Wife that I had no chance to regret. For this is what I heard and did fret Of older couples that we had met. But alas time did end our binding ties. The one's I held in vow and further, Past her sickness and her health, Past the riches we were never dealt, Past the sorrows of her death With chilling bones and an eternal tomb That holds her in sleep for ceaseless rest. My wife my love my only ardor How I long for you once more. © 2008 Ed Rector |
