Ode to the Living

Ode to the Living

A Poem by Ed Rector
"

A poem for the one's who lay with the dead

"
Ah to lay down ones head and lay amongst the dead.
To cease in existence and free yourself from dread,
To stop ones wonder only to ponder of the desist,
To lay down ones notions of lifes mighty burdens
And view where all our fates end no matter of sin.
This you will surley find in the cemetery minds
That have yet to be buried below, and oh no, oh no,
If you ye think to be one to surpass the dead
And be an immortal in thought, I laugh at thee,
And say good day, for your obviously rather distraught.
For the ones I see in cemeteries, are more often than not,
The ones buried before their time and chosen to rot.
There are those however, who choose to take up that spot
And lay down their heads and lay amongst the dead
To view anothers misfortune, to forget their own
And lay just to think of how a life once was.
Oh, what lives did play that no longer do today.
Like a baby girl that died just two months in,
Or of a grandfather whos son had forgotten him.
But this be not an ode to the sorrows of the dead
This be one to those that lay amongst them in life
And give praise to the misfortune of deaths scythe.

"Ah to lay down ones head and lay amongst the dead.
To seize in existence and free yourself from dread,"

Like the opening right away, but I believe you meant "To cease in existence", which might even read better as "To cease my existence"

"To stop one's wonder only to ponder of the desist,"

I don't understand this line. Perhaps you meant "To stop one's wonder and for pondering to desist." ?

typo: surly = surely

"Oh, what lives did play that no longer do today.
Like a baby girl that died just two months in,
Or of a grandfather who's son had forgotten him."

Great lines there. Those were my favorite :)

"But this be not an ode to the sorrows of the dead
This be one to those that lay amongst them in life
And give praise to the misfortune of deaths scythe. "

Also, a great ending. a very unique perspective. just a couple touchups here and there, and it will read more smoothly. :) nice job, m'dear

hugs
