A Poem by Edmund S. Obumba
"

written to comemorate the day I started my walk to three decades of life. written on the 1/10/2012..my birthday;-)

"
twenty one years..
seems like yesterday,
the pain,sorrow and struggles...
still clear like crystals..
the joys,the smiles,the laughter...
always close to my breast.
eons are made of days,
and this is one of them,
time seems to cascade,
and we celebrate,despite nearing
our graves.
the joy of life is in living,
and the pain of death is having not lived
to your fullest...
potential is unlocked with age,
and like fine wine is experience blended with
age...
like 21 gun salutes,i bury my two decade
sorrow,
and behold i step into a new gate,
with lights n prosperity my way.
goodbye 20,
here i come 21.

reminds me of one of my favorite simon and garfunkel songs...

"i was 21 years when i wrote this song/ i'm 22 now but i won't be for long./ time
hurries on, and the leaves that are green turn to brown."

and your poem and this song, reminders of how life seems to hurry on more the older we get...as children days seem to last forever...but it sure changes..i can vouch for that at 62.

a very powerful way to comemorate your 21st birthday, layered with philosphical wisdom, maturely expressed.

I really like the personal feeling of this. I wrote a poem like this one when I turned 17, it was a way to deal and usher in the new year I guess
