Part 5A Chapter by Alex AveryPart 5
The rest of the day passed in a blur, from Alice packing, to getting onto the train, and finally getting off in a suburb of New York City. Getting off the train, we looked at each other, and could do nothing but smile at each other. But once the euphoria of the trip faded, the cold reality of the task ahead set in. We had to find out as much as possible about these odd occurrences. Between the Ancient Greek dream-speak to the odd passages in the Latin script, we were in for a long night. The first thing Alice did was to set off researching the old Greek and Roman mythology surrounding each's Gods of Death. They were quite similar, and it just led her to conclude that Roman mythology was nothing short of an adoption of the Greek. While Alice was frustrating herself with fruitless labor, I was busy transcribing the Latin book into an English version that wasn't edited, or changed to hide the secrets it contains. Once both of us finished, we turned to each other, our faces a mask of mental exhaustion and, on my face anyways, a sense of accomplishment. "I got that entire passage transcribed into English for you." I said to Alice, smiling weakly. "Well, I have nothing new to share. Greco-Roman Death mythology are no use to us." She looks at me, and sighs morosely. I knee-walk over to her, and put an arm over her shoulder. I shake her gently, saying "Hey, babe, we can't get discouraged. We gotta stay positive. C'mon, go have a nice, relaxing bath. I'm gonna finish up here." Alice looks at me with gratitude, before standing up and stiffly walking up to the master bathroom. I watch her leave, smiling to myself. I have to be the most lucky guy in the world to have a girlfriend as amazing as her I thought to myself. Then, shaking my head to stop zoning, I turn back to the books. My head snaps up with a great idea, "I think I'm gonna cook supper while Alice was bathing. I walk over to the stove, and am about to turn on the burner when a very peculiar event happened. My vision blurred, and and a skull appeared in front of me. It was stripped of any skin or gristle, only gray and white bone floated in front of me. the skull started clicking it's jaw bone, and inside of my head, I heard "So, you continue on your foolish and worthless quest. Do you truly think you would be able to stop me from coming back to the world of life? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You are a foolish child running a fool's errand. Give up now! You might LIVE longer!" It resumes that inhuman laugh that i heard inside my nightmare. Unable to think straight, I put my hand out it and say in Latin "Recéde! Mors non est hic susciperent! Quoniam circuivit in me virtus Christi Imperat tibi!" Begone! Death is not welcome here! For the power Christ invested in me commands you! My vision clears, and in front of me, the worried face of Alice stares back at me. I groan, and sit up, rubbing my temple. "Ugh, what happened?" "You passed out, and started speaking Greek again, but the, you spoke Latin, almost as if you were having a conversation." "What did I say in Greek?" "Étsi, tha synechísei ti̱n anói̱ti̱ kai áchri̱sti̱ anazí̱ti̱sí̱ sas. Pistév̱ete pragmatiká óti tha eínai se thési̱ na me stamatí̱sei apó to na epistrépsei ston kósmo ti̱s zo̱í̱s? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Eíste éna anói̱to paidí pou tréchei théli̱ma enós anói̱tou. Dó̱ste tó̱ra! Boreíte na zí̱sete perissótero! Translated, 'So, you continue on your foolish and worthless quest? Do you truly think you would be able to stop me from coming back to the world of life? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You are a foolish child running a fool's errand. Give up now! You might LIVE longer!' I groan again, standing up. Looking to her, I say "That was what a skull was saying to me. I was having a conversation. Weird, huh?" "Quite. You're starting to worry me, Alex." "Sorry about that, Alice. I'm starting to worry myself too." © 2013 Alex AveryReviews
