Reflection

Reflection

A Poem by Emma Claire

This mirror does not reflect truth

but a mirage influenced by the truth

for if it saw the depths of the secrets i bear

cracks...cracks the glass would withhold

A dark abyss with corners my own being has no knowledge of

A sheet of thin ice as my only protection

A crystal web that withstands pressure with great difficulty

A shadow that drives up my spine, shocks my nerves numb

Candleglows of my irises are mere illusions

and that is what my mirror shows--

not the night that envelopes my body,

but the mirage of a soul long gone.
