Writers block

Writers block

A Poem by Daniel Eckert
"

Another crack at poetry from me. No book this time taking some advice and just writing. I was told once if you have writers block, write about it.

"

So empty so vast
so small, I know
but when I look
an eternity
it stretches past

those words, they echo
“Just f*****g write”
I look within
which is where I find
nothing, I’m empty
no light bulb
dinging above my head

I walk away and, DING!
That’s what I should have said
I run back, the words, they scramble
I try to reorganize, it’s too late
they’re dead

I'm a fairly new writer and a brand new poet. Be harsh, be kind, but be most importantly, true. I promise I wont mind.

Daniel, I know...we've all been there, but your description of 'the Block' is very eloquent in its simplicity and your limited use of internal rhyme makes it a decidedly more effective way to convey your thoughts. By the way, I write under the name riki (the name of my ferret) but my real name is Dan also. I've sent a friend request and would be honored if you would accept. take care...dan

No harsh words will you find from me - already enough people spreading that in the world and I must be true to myself first and foremost.

I've had my bouts with writers block at various times, sometimes spanning months only for the floodgates to open to near drowning later as my muse awakens from some lucid dream and revels in moving my hand to the page with fervor.

I keep pen, paper and even a notepad app on my phone and keep notes of even singular lines and titles just to be safe - you never know when inspiration will strike.

Keep it up and I will keep reading.

Very well expressed - and I am sure that all your readers willl identify. I take my writers block out each morning, run around it three times and then kick it under the bed. It's the only exercise I get! Well done.

For a new writer, struggling with writers block, you just wrote a very impressive piece, my friend. You expressed your thoughts quite nicely, letting them flow effortlessly. Or so it seemed. The best advice I was ever given was not to force it, it will come...and it does. Looking forward to reading more of your work, Daniel, and may your future writes come a bit easier.

I think almost every poet has a poem mused by this phenomena...
You did a very fine job describing your "block".
Like each poem us unique to the writer, each block is as well.
Have you ever looked at those pictures you need your eyes to de-focus to see the hidden details? This is how I defeat writers' block. De-focus! Good luck my friend.

AMEN to this. This is so on the spot and rhymed and everything. Well done. It is spot on, on the spot, honest to goodness, correct.
